Technical Bulletin 2-3/94

Two filter housings are included with the Model 2570 water recirculator. For normal use, a 5-micron filter is installed in the first housing and the second housing remains empty. If water usage or disposal are issues of concern at your location, use of a pH cartridge in the second housing is recommended.

The water recirculating unit is a self-contained, rinse water supply that filters and recirculates the rinse water within the Model 2430 or Model 2425 proofing processor.

Use only:

*5-micron filter Imation part number: 26-1011-5242-4

*pH cartridge Imation part number: 26-1011-4809-1

Filter and Cartridge

*5-micron filters are also available from Procam Controls, Inc., 900 Alpha Drive, Richardson, TX 75081. Call 1-800-333-2556

Why the pH Cartridge is Used

Use of a pH cartridge in addition to the 5-micron filter:

* Extends the life of the water in the recirculator. Figure

The pH cartridge conserves water and allows high- volume shops to change the water and filter less often.

* Neutralizes the water in the recirculator.

The pH cartridge lowers the pH of the rinse water to maintain optimum proof development and allow compliance with certain local disposal regulations.

How to Install the 5-Micron Filter and pH Cartridge

When using both the 5-micron filter and the pH cartridge, install the filter in the housing on the inlet side and the pH cartridge in the housing on the outlet side. Water must flow through the 5-micron filter before it flows through the pH cartridge. Refer to the illustration below. Make sure to install the pH cartridge properly with the tapered end up and wider end down.

Maintenance Schedule

During installation, the processor is set up by the Imation service technician to inform the operator when a pre-set limit of proofing material has been processed. Refer to the table below.

Pre-Set limit of Processed Proofing Material
ProcessorFilter onlyFilter and pH Cartridge
Model 24302,000 ft28,000 ft 2
Model 24258 hrs32 hours
Change the water in the recirculator, filter, and pH cartridge (if used) every two weeks OR after the pre-set amount of proofing material has been processed.

Change the water in the recirculator, filter and pH cartridge (if used) every two weeks OR after the pre-set amount of proofing material has been processed. Always change the water in the recirculator, filter, and pH cartridge (if used) at the same time.

Using a pH cartridge together with the filter allows high- volume shops to process approximately four times the amount of proofing material within the two weeks before the water and filter are changed.

For the Model 2430 processor:

The "Rinse" light on the Model 2430 processor status panel comes on to warn the operator that the limit of processed proofing material has been reached. This warning is only an indicator, and not a shutdown mechanism. The limit of proofing material is set for 2,000 square feet if only the filter is used and 8,000 square feet if both the filter and pH cartridge are used.

For the Model 2425 processor:

The limit of processing material is determined by a resettable hour meter. The limit is 8 hours of processing time when only the filter is used and 32 hours if both the filter and pH cartridge are used.

How Use of Custom Colors Affects the Maintenance Schedule

Using certain custom colors alters the maintenance schedule and may require that the water and filters be changed more often. The water, filter, and pH cartridge (if used) must be changed when a combination of metallic silver, metallic gold, white or pink custom colors reaches 10 percent of the total square footage of material processed.
